Our Man in the Bible this week is...

Jacob was the son of Isaac and Rebekah. He had a twin brother, Esau. Jacob's the younger of the two. He tricked his father Isaac into giving him his blessings when Isaac was on his deathbed. The blessing should have been given to Esau, but Esau was away and Jacob saw the opportunity.

Jacob had his sights set on Rachel but he was tricked too by Rachel's father. He worked seven years for Rachel's hand but when the time came that he wanted to marry Rachel, her father brought him the elder sister, Leah. So Jacob married her first. After seven more years, he was given Rachel as his wife too. His name was later changed to Israel.

Jacob had 12 sons and a daughter: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun and Dinah (with Leah); Dan and Naphtali (with Bilhah, Rachel's maid); Gad and Asher (with Zilpah, Leah's maid); and Joseph and Benjamin (with Rachel).

Jacob's name was later changed to Israel. Jacob did a lot of wrong things in his life and committed a lot of mistakes but he ended up being one of God's most loyal servants.
